 New Here...
« Thread Started on Oct 31, 2009, 9:08pm »

Hi guys! My name is Christine and I was just diagnosed this Wednesday after trying for over a year to figure out what was causing this amount of pain. I haven't been able to work full time since Feb of this year. My doctor wants me to start taking shots of Lupron (3 month) starting on Tuesday. Just picked it up from the pharmacy yesterday and am STILL not sure what to do. I'm a little apprehensive after reading about the side effects and negative feedback. This seems to be my only option right now but I'm really nervous to put this into my body. ???
Hope to learn a lot from you gals!!!

Hello and welcome! You can find tons of info about lupron here. There are a lot of girls on here taking it. It's not a fun drug :(
What stage are you at with your endo?

Welcome to the board! I can understand your apprehension on Lupron, and you may find that it is indeed the route for you to go, but don't feel pressured to start right away until you've had time to gather all the facts and make a sound decision. For a lot of women, Lupron tends to be a last resort after they've exhausted lots of other options. And there ARE other options out there, you just need to know about them!

Since you're newly diagnosed, I'd highly suggest picking up "Endometriosis: The Complete Reference for Taking Charge of Your Health" by Mary Lou Ballweg. It's FULL of good, solid info, presented in a neutral way, to help you make good decisions about your health.

Welcome!

olsenka..I actually bought that book yesterday but good to know that it'll be helpful! :)

Thanks for the welcomes!

I actually talked to a friend that took Lupron and she had a good experience with it...I guess it just depends on the individual.

welcome! you're right it does depend on the individual. I also had a good experience with lupron. Although i've heard that the 3 month shots tend to be a little rougher on the side effects. any way you can get the one month shots instead?

Congrats on getting a diagnosis!

Welcome to the board from the UK Christine. I'm still waiting for a diagnosis of what's going on with me. Not too much longer hopefully! This forum is great for support, advice and information. You'll love it!

Thanks for the support you guys. My doc thinks that the three month shot would be better for me...and with the amount of pain I'm going through, I am willing to go through the side effects. So I went and had the shot on Tuesday and so far there hasn't been a change but I've heard it could take a couple of weeks for it to work. I'm a little nervous and have already warned close friends, family and the bf about the expected mood swings....hopefully they can handle me!! lol
I just hope this helps...I've been off of work since mid Aug and I'd like to get back to at least a semi-normal life so I'm crossing my fingers that this will work.
Hope everyone has a pain-free day today!!

Are you getting the depo-provera shot?
Do you have any issues with fertility or is it even a concern right now?
I only say this because the shots have the longest "return to fertility" time frame so if you know you want to get pregnant soon it's probably not a good option.
Not trying to talk you out of it I promise! I just know that doctors hardly ever discuss these things.

Aside from fertility, I really hope it gives you some relief!! Good luck!
